A short night for the Eagles’ offensive stars

Michael Vick

Three minutes, fifty-five seconds.

That’s all Eagles coach Andy Reid needed to see out of his
first-team offense last night in the team’s preseason opener against the
Ravens.

Michael Vick, playing in his first (competitive?) game since throwing a season-ending interception against the Packers, was sharp and efficient. He went 4-of-6 for 74 yards and a TD before being yanked for Vince Young.

Vick spread the ball to four receivers. And he received a pretty loud ovation from the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field when he trotted into the huddle to start the game.

With DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin both out, Jason Avant and Riley Cooper were the starting wideouts. On the Eagles’ opening drive, Vick dropped back, evaded a short rush and hit Avant on a 20-yard completion up the gut.

He capped the drive by finding Brent Celek for a 3-yard TD. Vick’s 42-yard strike to Cooper set up the score.

After that, Reid turned the keys over to Young and the second team. Behind a heavy dose of Ronnie Brown (9 carries, 22 yards), the Eagles tacked on three points with a 35-yard field goal.
