Eagles: Add injuries to insult

Left tackle Jason Peters lies injured on the ground during the game against the San Francisco 49ers.

As if the Eagles didn’t have enough problems. Now, they have some significant holes to fill.

The team’s top pass-rusher, Trent Cole, is out with a calf strain and likely out for at least three weeks; its best offensive lineman, left tackle Jason Peters, has a hamstring strain and will miss Sunday’s game; and one of their best run-stuffers, Antonio Dixon, is out for the season with a torn triceps.

“I expect other guys to step up and play,” coach Andy Reid said yesterday. “When somebody goes down, the next guy steps in and let’s go.”

Reid indicated that King Dunlap will start at left tackle, but Cole’s replacement wasn’t announced. The team was reportedly set to add free agent defensive tackle Derek Landri to fill Dixon’s roster spot.

Despite all the recent struggles — and injuries — Reid said there would be no changes to his coaching staff. However, he kept a tight lip about any future personnel changes.

Reid also called out a reporter who questioned his play-calling, specifically Ronnie Brown’s run/pass option at the goal line.

“If you’re not watching practice, it does come out of nowhere,” said Reid, adding that the team practiced that play quite a bit.

The coach ended his press conference by saying he understands the fans’ frustration right now.
“After watching the last three games I would understand that, but we’re going to keep working hard and getting better,” Reid said.
