Black Friday: Butter them up with scotch

The Macallan Sherry Oak 12 Years Old ($50). The Macallan Sherry Oak 12 Years Old, now available in six specially designed packages featuring X-ray photography by Nick Veasey, looks more luxe than its price tag suggests. The images — house, feather, scissors, drop, still and cask — depict the six pillars that make up the Macallan brand.

Highland Park 18 Years Old ($105) First released in 1997, this Highland Park was named “Best Spirit in the World” by F. Paul Pacult in 2005. With a smoky, oaky bouquet and aftertaste, the notes include sweet and nutty toffee and almond. Save this one for your swankiest celebratory soiree – or just a quiet night by a fireplace among your most respected peers.

The Glenrothes Editor’s Cask ($375) There are only 130 bottles of this limited-edition vintage available in the U.S. this winter (if you have a boss who’s hard to impress, this will do the trick). Check out that color — when the Editor’s Cask was distilled in 1996, it was stored in a Spanish oak hogshead cask, lending it that almost chocolate hue.

The Glenrothes 1995 ($82)This delicious scotch was the first cask the distillery laid down in 1995 for what would become their vintage series. It has an almost sweet flavor with notes of butterscotch and toffee.

Glen Garioch Vintage 1994 ($109.99) From one of the oldest operating distilleries in all of Scotland comes their 1994 Vintage, which has matured in North American oak, ex-bourbon casks for 17 years. Only 3,000 bottles of this single malt small batch will reach the U.S. this holiday season, so sip and savor.
