PHOTOS: Over 40,000 runners participated in 33nd annual ten-mile Blue Cross Broad Street Run

An estimated 40,000 people are filling Broad Street this morning from
Somerville Avenue in Logan to South Philadelphia’s Navy Yard for the
33nd annual ten-mile Blue Cross Broad Street Run, which began at 8:30
a.m. The race, one of the most popular ten-mile road races in the
nation, sold out in five hours – over a quarter of the city’s
population registered.

The route from North to South Philadelphia, named by Runner’s World as
one of the fastest ten-mile courses in the country, is lined with
water stops, aid stations and live entertainment  – last we heard
around City Hall, there were some serious stadium rock jams blaring.
All pledges and donations benefit the American Cancer Society.
