Weird news roundup: Man steals pot from cops
It’s time for another edition of your weird news roundup. This is Generation Beta.
Officer, the pot just smelled so good!
A western Pennsylvania man is heading to court for allegedly stealing a bag of marijuana from the Charleroi Regional police department.
Authorities say 27-year-old Dylan Thompson stole the small bag from the patrol room while an officer was logging it into evidence.
Police realized the bag was missing and went after Thompson, who they say handed over the pot and repeatedly said “I just couldn’t help myself. That bud smelled so good.”
Thompson was released on personal recognizance. He faces a preliminary hearing Aug. 23.
Woman attacked in Walmart checkout line
A Maine woman is free on bail after officials say she attacked a woman in the checkout line of the Farmington Walmart.
Sarah Hanson got into a fight with her husband in the parking lot, then went back into the store, according to officials, where they say she approached a woman in the checkout line and began yelling obscenities before punching her in the face and kicking her.
The victim was treated and released.
Hanson is charged with aggravated elevated assault and domestic violence assault.
Toddler left in dollar store
An overwhelmed three year old was reunited with his frazzled mom after an hour of crying alone in a store aisle.
According to a police report, the boy was so upset he could only ask “where is my mommy,” but couldn’t remember her last name.
After an hour, a gold minivan returned to the Fort Pierce, Florida Deal’s Dollar Tree.
The mother “seemed confused when approached about the whereabouts of her child,” according to the police report.
She said she thought he was in the vehicle at the time she left the store, but couldn’t find him when they got home.
Philleana Peak is facing charges of child neglect and possession of marijuana.
The child has been turned over to the grandmother, and the Florida Department of Children and Families has been notified of the incident.

Woman sues Volvo for making her look like an escort
Carolyn Giles, a 23-year-old model and Columbia University student, was none too pleased when she saw a Volvo web ad with her image that said “spend a night with the Swedish model of your choice!” and partake in “Test Drive Dating.”
She was so upset, in fact, that she’s suing Swedish car maker Hertz and the Ford modeling agency to the tune of $10 million.
Giles says the ad made “it appear that she may be an escort, with extreme sexual and inappropriate connotations and innuendos.”
Her lawyer calls the web ad sleazy and inappropriate.
As you can see below, it advertises an “elite only” event, “purely for the unattached,” at which single, “Sexy Swedish models of all shapes and sizes” (i.e. Volvos) will spend one-on-one time being test-driven by potential suitors aged 30 to 49.
Giles claims that she wasn’t even paid for the ad.
