The Word: Cheryl Cole gets X’d off reality show

You won't have Cole's deep V-necks to kick around anymore, America!

Even though I have a feeling that you, like I, don’t really know who Cheryl Cole is, it is my duty as your loyal gossip columnist to let you know she’s no longer a part of Simon Cowell’s U.S. edition of  “The X Factor.”

While the British star has been a hit on the U.K. version of the show, there were concerns her accent would be too difficult for American audiences to understand, according to TMZ. There were other issues as well, including a “lack of chemistry” with fellow judge Paula Abdul. While reps for Fox have yet to comment on the story, a source close to Cole tells Us Weekly, “It’s true. She isn’t on the show anymore. Everyone is gobsmacked. This came out of nowhere.  Simon had nothing to do with it.”

It’s a sad day when you lose in a coherency-off with Paula Abdul. However, I still have a feeling Cowell is nervous about his show now that “The Voice” is such a hit. Could all this “drama” be Cowell’s way of drumming up attention for the show before it airs in September? Or is she really just the reality TV judge version of the Swedish Chef from the Muppets?

Stars get green

On Wednesday night, comedians Judy Gold, Sherri Shepherd and Nikki Blonsky helped Bette Midler celebrate the 10th annual Spring Picnic for her Restoration Project at Gracie Mansion in New York. The fundraiser helped MilliontreesNYC, an initiative to plant and care for one million new trees throughout New York City.

“Trees are like good friends. They stand by us, they’re helpful friends, quiet friends. And who doesn’t love a friend that doesn’t talk back?” said Midler during a speech. Keeping in theme with the evening, when later asked where she’d most like to plant a tree, comedian Gold cracked: “Oh, God. My ultimate spot to plant a tree? I don’t know — my apartment?”
