Mario Lopez is still wearing his marathon medal

Mario, Melissa, and his medal on Tuesday.

The Word’s intrepid reporter Meredith Engel attended a party for Ivory Soap’s new “Soap Dish” Facebook community in New York City on Tuesday in order to chat with honoree Melissa McCarthy for Wednesday’s column. But guess who else was there?  “Extra” host and former “Saved by the Bell” hottie Mario Lopez. The sighting wasn’t unique — Lopez is at a lot of these events. But what was weird is that two days later, he was still wearing his medal for completing the New York City marathon. What’s even funnier is that I was sent pics of him running the race — twice — to run in the Word! I have posted evidence of these pictures here.

Like most marathoners, Lopez is guilty of boasting about the fact he ran a marathon (and he is extra annoying as he has a team of publicists behind him). But isn’t it strange he still has his medal on? What is going on there? Is he an updated version of that old horror story, “The Yellow Ribbon”? You know, the one when the boy unties the yellow ribbon and his girlfriend’s head falls off? Does he keep wearing it because it keeps him young? His abs tight? What kind of secret are you hiding, Lopez?!

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Lopez ran the marathon in 4 hours, 20 minutes, information I was sent three different times. My inbox is my own hellish version of Facebook.
