The kids’ musical for parents who hate kids’ musicals
Everyone’s favorite Jamaican singer is getting his own off-Broadway show — and it’s for kids.
“Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds” is based on the children’s book with the same name written by Cedella Marley, the daughter of the late reggae star. Like the book, the musical is about a little bird named Ziggy who stays inside to avoid the dangers of the outside world, like bad weather and evil spirits. His mom helps little Ziggy venture out by reassuring him that “every little thing is gonna be all right.”
In addition to “Three Little Birds,” the musical will include some of Bob Marley’s other hits, namely “Roots Rock Reggae,” “Is This Love” and “Jammin’.” For parents, the familiar, mellow music is a welcome change to the musical cheese typical of children’s theater.
The show begins next month at the New Victory Theater, in New York City.
