Essie Button tells us how to make up our face for snowy days

Everybody kicks up such a fuss when it comes to beach beauty, not thinking twice about spending a small fortune on miracle cellulite cream or self tanner. But what about the snow? “People can still see your face. So I would go for something very natural and really moisturising. Makeup-wise, think dewy, soft skin and slightly rosy cheeks,” beauty blogger Estée of Essie Button tells us.

Here’s what you should do:

Antipodes
Antipodes Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream, $58, www.antipodesnature.com

Look for thicker face creams

“Your skin is likely to get dry so put on more moisturizer than you normally would, focusing on sensitive areas such as the nose and mouth. For something really rich, try the Antipodes Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream.”

Bobbi Brown BB Cream, $44, www.bobbibrowncosmetics.com

Use blusher and a BB to fake the flush

“A tinted moisturiser is a no-brainer. The Bobbi Brown BB Cream is really hydrating without being too thick or heavy and has an SPF of 35. You can’t really go overboard with a BB cream because it’s so light, but maybe use a little bit more than you normally would if you’re relying on it for sun protection (hitting the slopes [or being around a snow covered city] can be just as, if not more, damaging for your skin than a seaside vacay). For a natural glow to the cheeks, dab on something quite sheer, such as the Revlon Photoready Cream Blush in Flushed.”

Rocket Waterproof Mascara
Maybelline The Rocket Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara, $7.50, www.ulta.com

For the eyes, choose waterproof everything

“Use a waterproof mascara — if any snow gets in your face it will be just like splashing it with water — only colder. You can find the Maybelline The Rocket Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara in most drugstores.”

NuxeReveMielStickLevres
Nuxe Reve de Miel, $19, www.nuxe.com

Don’t let your lips flake

“The Nuxe Lip Moisturizing Stick has a thick, sand-like consistency but it’s amazing for keeping your lips soft. Also, use a lip exfoliator such as the Lush Popcorn lip scrub to remove any flakes and then re-apply some of the moisturising stick on top of that (it’s even more effective if you cover your lips in it before bed).”
