Four things to know about Chanel’s Paris Fashion Week show

Karl Lagerfeld, left, is letting his hair down with the new collection.

1. It was held in a supermarket. OK, not exactly a supermarket, but an elaborate set designed like a Chanel superstore at the Grand Palais in Paris, with aisles full of everyday kitchen staples including Karl-branded spaghetti. It was the perfect setting to introduce different types of shoppers because, well, we all eat, right?

2. Crop tops and sneakers ruled. The same Karl Lagerfeld who once told us that wearing sweatpants is the equivalent to giving up on life showed some eyebrow-raising casual looks for fall. Like his couture show, the iconic designer paired colorful sneakers with everything from crop tops and distressed leggings to sublime ladylike skirt suits giving off a very “Working Girl” vibe.

But before you go thinking the house is disembarking from luxury — it is, after all, known for the ultimate status symbol, the quilted 2.55 bag — models came down the aisles in the most divine voluminous multicolored coats, some with rounded shoulders and nipped waists. They were basically the kind of outerwear you could throw over pajamas and it wouldn’t matter.

3. Kendall Jenner walked the show.

4. Karl does streetwear.  The sportier feel didn’t stop with the sneakers. Other elements — utilitarian pockets, zipper details and even quilted puffer coats — gave the collection an urban edge.
