This mysterious YouTube account may scare the bejeezus out of you

Each of the site’s 77,000 videos feature some combination of these colored shapes.

One of the things the Internet put an unfortunate stop to was the prevalence of community-specific urban legends. All a naysayer has to do nowadays is Google and find the truth in seconds flat. So goodbye, murderous hook-handed gentlemen, and goodbye, children’s mental hospital built on an Indian burial ground. However, here we have a bona fide urban legend that is actually ON the Internet.

A mysterious YouTube account operated by something called Webdriver Torso recently began making the rounds on the conspiracy theory circuit. Why? Well, the account features over 77,000 videos, each of them similarly creepy. They are each seconds in length, and contain an assemblage of blue and red shapes and several low tones. No two videos are the same, which has prompted some to believe they are some kind of code, or the Internet version of a numbers station.

If not a way for spies to communicate, perhaps they are messages to or from alien life forms. Some have suggested just that. In any event, the account has answered none of our inquiries, so for now, it’ll have to be another bedtime story we tell our children to keep them in line. In the meantime, here is a good one. Let’s hope it’s not some kind of “The Ring”-type scenario where we die several days after watching it.
