Police arrested a second teen Wednesday night for several incidents of vandalism in South Philadelphia, some of which popped up on YouTube and were documented by surveillance footage.
That came a day after another teen — who maintained a YouTube account that posted at least one of the videos allegedly showing him and his friends smashing car windows and spray painting “Wreck Locals” on vehicles and homes — surrendered to police in the face of increasing traditional and social media pressure.
Both are juveniles, reportedly between the ages of 15 and 16, so their identities and arrest photos will not be released. The second suspect is charged with 17 counts of criminal mischief and related offenses.
The owner of the YouTube account who posted a video depicting himself and several friends vandalizing cars and properties (as well as some entertaining dance shorts) turned himself in last night, police said.
After the police department posted surveillance footage of a Dec. 27 vandalism spree on the 2000 block of South Etting Street Tuesday, a number of people recognized one suspect and referred investigators to YouTube videos he posted showing at least one other incident of vandalism.
