GRAYS FERRY – Government and community leaders gathered yesterday to celebrate the award of a federal grant that will help two of the city’s struggling neighborhoods.

Universal Companies, an economic development organization started by music mogul Kenny Gamble, was one of 21 groups in the country selected for a $500,000 Promise Neighborhood Planning Grant. Universal will focus on transforming Point Breeze and Grays Ferry.

“This is a really big deal,” Gamble told the crowd of supporters at Charles Audenried High School.
