Council Speaker Christine Quinn urged to act on paid sick leave bill
More than 15 women elected officials will gather at City Hall on Monday to urge City Council Speaker Christine Quinn to allow a vote on a bill that will require employers to give workers paid sick leave, The Daily News reports.
Supporters of the bill say workers should have the right to paid sick days. Opponents have said they are concerned that the bill will hurt businesses, subjecting them to more fines by the city.
Quinn has long been caught in the middle of the bill, feeling pressure from both the business community and liberals. She has stalled action on it, saying she supports the idea of the bill but the time has not been right because it could hurt the city’s fragile economy.
