Police: Man threatened Delaware Park Casino staff with assault rifle

Delaware State Police arrested a Wilmington man early this morning for allegedly threatening Delaware Park Casino security staff with an assault rifle.

Police said Brandon Buchanan, 28, demanded that a casino security officer remove one of his relatives from the gaming floor around 11 p.m. last night. He allegedly threatened to return to the casino with an assault rifle if the guard didn’t comply.

A trooper caught up with Buchanan around midnight in the casino parking lot. During a search of Buchanan’s pants pockets, the officer allegedly found a magazine fully loaded with 20 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, a caliber used in automatic rifles.

Police recovered from the backseat of Buchanan’s car a Hungarian AMD-65 – a type of AK-47 – along with 2.5 grams of pot and a pipe. Investigators said a search of the man’s home turned up more ammunition, a Century Arms 7.62mm assault rifle and a Ruger 9mm semiautomatic handgun.

Buchanan was arrested and is charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession and possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is currently jailed at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on a $62,350 cash bond.
