Bistrot La Minette ending outdoor movie screenings

Bella Vista’s Bistrot La Minette will soon end its popular outdoor movie screenings because of uncertainties surrounding the French eatery’s courtyard and its neighboring property.

“I am sorry to report that this year will be the last year that we will be doing our movies under the stars,” Chef Peter Woolsey said in a newsletter.

“This past December, the old synagogue that is our neighbor to the north was sold to a developer and will soon be built into a 14-unit rental property. Our lease on our garden courtyard is up at the end of May, but we will be still using the space until construction begins.”

The bistro on South Sixth Street began offering the al fresco dinner and a movie promotion three years ago.

Three days a week during the spring and summer, Bistrot La Minette converts its courtyard into an outdoor movie theater, projecting French films on the wall of the adjacent building for diners to watch.

“I am relying on financing and builders to delay the start of construction for as long as possible,” Woolsey said. ”I hope to be able to use [the courtyard] for the entire upcoming summer, but we shall see.”

He encouraged visitors to take advantage of Bistrot La Minette’s movies under the stars events during thespring in case an arrangement with the developers can’t be reached.

The screenings are set to begin in May. Films will be shown at 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and at 9:30 p.m. Fridays.

Woolsey said the list of movies being screened this summer will soon be posted to Bistrot La Minette’s website.
