Philadelphia police have arrested a man for allegedly raping an elderly woman last week during a home invasion in Rhawnhurst

Abraham Cordova, 26, of the 7200 block of Horrocks Street in Castor, is charged with attempted murder, attempted rape and assault.

Cordova allegedly broke into the home of a 63-year-old woman shortly after midnight April 11, then tried to sexually assault her.

When the woman struggled, he allegedly took out a hammer and hit her several times in the head.

The woman began screaming and Cordova fled in an unknown direction, according to investigators.

Police on Tuesday released surveillance video to local media showing the suspect and his vehicle, an early 1990s model white two-door Toyota Celica.

Authorities they received several anonymous tips after airing the footage.

Officers shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday stopped a white Toyota Celica being driven by a man fitting the suspect’s description.

They identified Cordova as the alleged suspect and took him into custody.
