We understand how embarrassing it can be to accidentally use the wrong word that changes the meaning of a sentence, but thankfully we’re not president of the United States.

This morning President Barack Obama gave a press conference to discuss the crisis in Syria, the continuing Boston Marathon bomber investigation and the status of the federal budget cuts. At the end of the press conference President Obama stood at the podium to answer a few questions about Jason Collins announcing he is gay.

It is no secret President Obama is a fan of basketball. He is an avid Chicago Bulls fan. He filled out an NCAA March Madness bracket and on Easter shot some hoops with children and missed most of his shots.

President Obama is also the first sitting Commander in Chief to publically announce his support of gay marriage and rights for the LGBT community.

After Jason Collins came out yesterday, through a piece in Sports Illustrated, as the first professional male gay athlete in the major league sports, it’s only natural the press wanted to ask Obama about it.

The president responded to the question:

“For an individual who has excelled at the highest level to go ahead and say ‘This is who I am. I am proud of it. I’m still a great competitor. I’m still seven-foot tall and can bang with Shaq. And uh, you know, deliver a hard foul.’”

Oh, Mr. President. Out of all the words in the English vocabulary you had to choose ‘bang’ didn’t you?

President Obama is coming from a good place with that comment, in the future he should just reconsider his word choice.

Obama said that America should be proud and that he is a great role model. The POTUS isn’t the only politician that commended Collins’ choice to come out.

New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn also praised the basketball star for opening up about his sexuality.

Quinn, who is openly gay herself, said Collins’ decision will “literally … save lives.”
