Jamie Moyer to deliver Immaculata University commencement address
Jamie Moyer’s wife answered first.
“I hear you’re looking for Jamie Moyer,” said Moyer’s wife, Karen, when Immaculata University came calling.
While Karen said yes first, an official letter followed and the former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher agreed to deliver the commencement address to Immaculata’s 2013 graduating class on May 19, said Marie Moughan, executive director of university communications.
A campus committee chose Moyer not only for his work on the baseball diamond, but for his fund raising efforts off it.
Jamie and Karen Moyer established the Moyer Foundation about 13 years ago. The non profit’s goal is to help underprivileged children.
Moyer will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree from the Catholic university, which is sits about 20 miles west outside the city limits.
Moyer, who pitched for the Phillies 2008 World Series-winning team, is a native of Sellersville.
