Man stages girl’s kidnapping by fake Facebook account

A young man was charged in connection to a teenager’s death after he apparently staged the girl’s kidnapping so he could later find her and be named a hero.

Kyle Dube allegedly arranged to meet with 15-year-old Nichole Cable in the woods near her house in Maine, according to Dube’s brother and girlfriend.

When in the woods, Dube, who was donning a ski mask, allegedly attacked the girl, duct-tape her mouth and placed her in the back of a pickup truck owned by his father.

When Dube reached his destination he discovered that Nichole died en route. He then allegedly dumped her body in the woods.

Nichole’s friend, Bryan Butterfield, informed law enforcement that Dube had set up a fake Facebook page in Butterfield’s name to gain Nichole’s trust. This made Dube a suspect in the girl’s disappearance.

“Kyle wanted to have sex with Nichole, but that she has refused his advances,” Butterfield told investigators.

On May 12, the day Nichole disappeared, Nichole texted a friend to say she was meeting “Butterfield” to buy marijuana.

Investigators, with help from Facebook, were able to trace the IP address associated with the fake Facebook account. This led them to Dube’s parent’s house, where he lives.

Her body was found on May 20. The exact cause of her death has yet to be determined.

According to multiple reports, Dube’s DNA was also found on clothing at the spot where Nichole was last believed to be.

An affidavit states that Dube planned to “kidnap Nichole and hide her” so that “he would later find her and be the hero.”

He was indicted on charges of murder and kidnapping. He could be sentenced to 25 years to life.
