Richard “Dic” Donohue, the MBTA Transit police officer who was wounded during a shootout with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, will wave the team flag at Wednesday’s Bruins-Penguins Eastern Conference Finals playoff game.

Donohue’s wife, Kim, posted the announcement to a Facebook page set up to help raise money for Donohue’s recovery.

“It has been a long 6 weeks with a lot of ups and downs, and it is finally time for Dic to have some fun and get out of a hospital setting, even if for only 1 night!” the post said. “I am so unbelievably proud of my husband and couldn’t be happier that he gets to show his true BOSTON pride! Sean, the first wave of that flag will be for you.”

Donohue and Sean Collier, the MIT police officer shot and killed April 18, were friends who had graduated from the police academy together.

Donohue was wounded the same night Collier was killed, during a gunbattle in Watertown with bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The older brother was killed during the shootout; the younger was captured the next day.

The officer was shot in the upper right leg and suffered major blood loss when his femoral artery was severed. Doctors said Donohue went into cardiac arrest and nearly died.

Eight weeks later, the 33-year-old is recovering at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital after surgeries to both legs.

“There’s no way I’m not going to get through this without smiling.” he said last month. “I get cramps. I have just general pain, I can’t even explain it. It comes and goes, and it’s so bad, but I can’t do anything about it.”

Investigators are looking into whether Donohue was wounded by friendly fire from another officer’s gun.
