After 10 years, Philadelphia Eagles officials believe the stadium could use a makeover.

The team announced Sunday a two-year, $125-million plan to renovate Lincoln Financial Field, which includes expanded video boards and seating capacity.

Larry Needle, executive director of the Philadelphia Sports Congress, said these renovations would help attract larger events to the area.

Such as a World Cup, Olympic Games or Superbowl?

“I think the reality is Philadelphia could probably handle the biggest and the best events in the world,” he said.

By 2013, wireless internet will be available for fans and expansions will be made to the three main entrance gates and concession stands. Murals and Images honoring players and moments in the team’s history will be added throughout the stadium.

By 2014, two new high-definition video boards will be installed in both end zones and will stretch over 9,500 square feet. Two bridges will be constructed in the southwest corner, and a new escalator will be built on the west side of the stadium.

An additional 1,600 stadium seats will be added – about 800 in the southwest corner, 600 in the northeast corner, and 200 in the northwest corner.

Needle said the congress appreciates how the team tries to make the stadium “as fan friendly as possible, and as cutting edge as possible.”
