Plastic surgeon offers painful tongue patch surgery for weight loss
A Beverly Hills plastic surgeon is offering a new, “revolutionary” weight loss procedure that embraces the famous phrase, “beauty is pain.”
Dr. Nikolas Chugay, of Chugay Cosmetic surgery Medical Clinic, recently began surgically sewing a “Miracle Patch” to his patients’ taste-loving tongues.
The tongue patch makes it painful to eat, thereby producing “a means to lose weight never before offered by other surgeons.”
According to Chugay’s clinic, gastric bypass surgery and lap bands can run between $14,000 and $35,000, but for just $2,000, customers can have the patch sewn to their tongue.
The reversible procedure takes less than an hour. The patient is fitted with a custom patch for the tongue which makes chewing of solid foods “very difficult and painful, limiting the patient to a liquid diet,” (like a juice cleanse?).
Patients leave the office with a liquid diet plan that, according to Chugay, fulfills all of their nutritional needs while at the same time minimizing caloric intake to 800 calories per day. Patients can lose between 20 and 30 pounds in one month, or 55 pounds in two months. He also said it’s safer than a lap band procedure.
An obvious question is whether patients will be able to keep weight off after the pain patch is removed. According to Chugay, they will.
In a video on his website, Chugay says, “It gives me a chance to retrain, to help the patients, to modify their way of eating, of exercising. It is a lifestyle modification that we are accomplishing with the patients.”
He goes on to say, “As you know, obesity has reached epidemic proportions in this country. There are many children, there are many teenagers who are overweight, there are massive quantities of adults that are obese or severely overweight, and so, in my travels I have seen something that I thought would help my patients to lose weight quickly and efficiently, and that’s called the tongue patch procedure.”
