The Emerson students behind the now-notorious phrase “Boston Strong” on Tuesday handed over a $893,940 check to The One Fund, and have no intention to call it quits.

For the last eight weeks, the young trio has sold T-shirts to raise money for victims of the Boston Marathon bombings, however they halted production on Sunday so they could deliver the funds raised so far. If all goes well, they will start another phase of sales by the end of this week.

“The phrase (Boston Strong) looked nice. It seemed clean and simple, and was based on ‘Live Strong’ and “Army Strong,’” said 20-year-old Nicholas Reynolds, who cooked up the idea for printing it on T-shirts while watching the news with his friend Chris Dobens.

As for the widespread success of the phrase, Reynolds said it caught him and his friends by surprise.

“It’s been absolutely amazing to see it spread across the nation. Seeing it on buses, and hearing celebrities say it has been crazy,” he said.

Boston Strong partner Lane Brenner, 22, said the team is excited to push forward with fundraising.

“We’d definitely like to hit the million dollar mark. That’d be really cool. As long as people want to keep giving, we want to keep making T-shirts,” she said.

The shirts cost $20 – $5 goes toward production and $15 goes to The One Fund – will be available for purchase at inktothepeople.com.
