Delaware truck driver argues malpractice after eight-month erection

The same surgery that helped a Delaware truck driver get it up, wouldn’t let it down.

Daniel Metzgar, 44, of Newark, lived with a constant erection for about eight months following a botched 2oo9 penile implant surgery to cure his erectial disfunction, according to The News Journal of Wilmington.

Metzgar is now suing Wilmington-based urologist,  Thomas J. Desperito, for malpractice.

The source of the issue was “a three-piece inflatable implant, consisting of inflatable cylinders inside the shaft of the penis, a fluid reservoir under the abdominal wall and a pump inside the scrotum,” according to the newspaper.

Desperito’s attorney said Metzgar should have known something was wrong after he experienced severe swelling, and sometimes “bad medical results occur through the fault of no one,” the newspaper reported.

Metzgar said he’d been told swelling would be inevitable.

The implant was removed in August 2010.

Metzgar testified in state superior court Monday that he had a replacement implant surgically attached by another doctor.

While this device works, Metzgar said, “The scar tissue from the first surgery left his member about 50 percent smaller, and he does not experience the same level of sensation,” the newspaper reported.
