Police have arrested a man who on Feb. 3 allegedly robbed a Subway in the Packer Park section of South Philadelphia.

Investigators said Michael Showers, 40, entered the Subway at 330 Oregon Ave. shortly after 6 p.m.

He allegedly first asked for cookies, then as he approached the counter pulled a handgun and demanded cash.

After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, police said he ordered the employee to the rear of the restaurant and fled on foot, running west on Oregon Avenue.

Police said they received a tip identifying Showers after releasing surveillance video of the robbery.

Following further investigation, Showers was taken into custody May 30 without incident.

Showers, of the 2700 block of Randolph Street in South Philadelphia, is no stranger to the law.

He was already on probation after pleading guilty April 26 to simple assault.

Showers in 2008 received a 2-to-4-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to burglary and criminal conspiracy.

He was in 1999 sentenced to 11 months and 15 days to 23 months in jail after pleading guilty to robbery, aggravated assault, simple assault and criminal trespassing in connection with four separate arrests, according to court documents.

Showers was arraigned May 31 on the most recent robbery charges and bail was set at 10 percent of $250,000.

He is charged with robbery, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, making terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment, possession of an instrument of crime and numerous firearm offenses.

Showers is next due in court June 18 for a preliminary hearing.
