Police are looking for two men who on June 19 used the “bump-and-grab” pickpocketing technique to target an 82-year-old woman shopping at the Weavers Way Co-op in Chestnut Hill.

The victim was shopping at the store, located at 8424 Germantown Ave., when around 5:10 p.m. two unknown men entered.

Authorities said the men appeared to target the woman, presumably in order to create a distraction.

One of the men bumped into the woman off-camera, allegedly using the moment of confusion to pickpocket her and employing a blue and white garment bag to conceal the theft.

The woman told authorities she thought nothing of the incident until she attempted to pay for her groceries.

It was then she noticed her black bank deposit bag – containing an undetermined amount of cash, along with uncashed checks and credit card slips she was planning to take to the bank– was missing.

Police said both suspects left the store through a rear exit and fled in an unknown direction.

They are each described as black males between 30 and 40 years of age.

One suspect is described as stocky with a medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a blue baseball cap, a blue and purple t-shirt, dark-colored shorts and black sneakers.

Authorities said the second suspect has a medium build and dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a red t-shirt with a white eagle emblem on the left side and white sneakers.

Anyone with information on the crime or the suspects is asked to call 911, to contact the Northwest Detectives Division at 215-686-3353 or 3354, or to submit an anonymous tip by dialing 215-686-TIPS (8477), texting PPD TIP (773847), emailing tips@phillypolice.com or by filling out this online form.
