A hungover couple was arrested over the weekend for taking their hangover pains out on a Salisbury lifeguard.

According to a report by The Daily News of Newburyport, Erin E. Mulcahy, 24, of Haverhill and her boyfriend Shawn Duncan, 42, of Lawrence attacked the male lifeguard Sunday because his whistle was aggravating their hangovers.

Trouble began about 2:45 p.m., when Duncan told the lifeguard to stop blowing his whistle at the swimmers, and when the lifeguard refused, Duncan allegedly dumped a bucket of water on his head and punched in in the face.

Hundreds gathered around the attack, the report said, and witnessed Mulcahy yelling at the lifeguard before pushing him and punching him in the chin.

Both face charges of assault and battery on a public employee and disorderly conduct. Mulcahy faces an additional charge of resisting arrest, and Duncan is charged with intimidating a witness for telling the lifeguard, “Now I know who you are,” as he gave a police statement.
