Former Bucks County ambulance squad employee pleads in $642K theft
A former Warrington Community Ambulance member pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing nearly $650,000 from the nonprofit rescue squad over four years.
Danette Lewchick, 56, of Warwick, entered her guilty plea Tuesday in Bucks County Court of Common Pleas in Doylestown, the Bucks County Courier Times reports. She faces up to 27 years in prison.
Lewchick’s attorney said his client blew all the money she stole at casinos.
Lewchick, who became the nonprofit’s financial secretary in April 2008, is accused of stealing $642,741.25.
Authorities allege the 56-year-old woman wrote checks to herself or to be cashed, increased her paychecks beyond what she should have been compensated and even made direct withdrawals from the ambulance squad’s accounts.
The Bucks County Times reported Lewchick owed Harrah’s, Borgata and Trump casinos $40,000 at the time of her 2004 divorce.
