Blackout in Boston likely due to manhole explosion
A manhole explosion may have caused a blackout in Boston, knocking out power to thousands of residents late Wednesday into Thursday.
According to NStar, the explosion may have been caused to heightened use of electricity. ISO-New England sent out a warning earlier this week pleading with the region to minimize its electrical use during this week’s heat wave – which is the third to hit the area this summer.
ISO estimated that Thursday’s power usage could be the highest on record in the last seven years; on a day in August 2006, the region used 28,0000 megawatts.
