Update: H&M promised online shopping and they have delivered. While it was unclear exactly when in August the e-commerce site would open its virtual doors, as of today, August 1, we can shop inexpensive clothing at www.hm.com/us. The straight sizes seem to be decently stocked but those looking forward to the company’s plus-sizes may have to wait a bit longer. As of Aug. 1, there are only a few options, including just one dress, and 32 tops. Only a few of the options are available now, with more “coming soon.”

H&M’s trendy clothing has been on heavy rotation in our closets for 13 years. From basic black tank tops to zebra-striped ballet flats, the Stockholm-based retailer has been a major hit with Americans. Starting in August, we can get our H&M fix online. H&M has postponed e-commerce site twice before, but it seems like their August launch date is for real this time.

It has not yet been announced when in August the online shop will debut. According to Bloomberg News, the United States is H&M’s second-biggest market, with the first being Germany. In the past, H&M has repeatedly said it needs more time to prepare for an online shop. The company said it was still working on logistics and security. They also blame the delay on the size of the U.S. market. The retailer has almost 300 stores in a number of big cities but a total of 14 states have no local outlets. Considering how long the lines are for the dressing room and register, we’re looking forward to revamping our wardrobe with a few clicks. Follow Mary Ann Georgantopoulos on Twitter @marygeorgant
