A Norfolk, Va. man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly stole a motorcycle during a test drive in Philadelphia, then crashed the vehicle on I-95  in Wilmington, Del.

Delaware State Police said Tony Harris, 22, arranged to test drive a Suzuki motorcycle from a Philadelphia auto shop.

At some point during the test ride, both Harris and the dealer representative accompanying the man stopped for fuel.

Police said the escort “felt uncomfortable about the test ride continuing” and asked Harris to give him the keys to the motorcycle.

Harris instead allegedly pulled out a handgun and fled onto I-95 at a high rate of speed with the auto shop representative in pursuit.

Investigators said as Harris attempted to drive onto the Delaware Avenue off-ramp, he lost control of the motorcycle, struck the guard rail and was ejected.

He then fled on foot, still being pursued by the auto shop representative, who allegedly observed Harris toss his gun into brush alongside the roadway.

Officers with the Wilmington Police Department around 1:30 p.m. arrested Harris near 11th and Adams streets in Wilmington.

They allegedly recovered from alongside the road a semiautomatic handgun and two loaded 16-round ammunition clips.

Harris was taken by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

He was charged with receiving stolen property, tampering with physical evidence, reckless driving, driving without a valid license and firearms offenses.

Harris was committed on $10,000 secured bond and placed into the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Philadelphia police continue to investigate the initial motorcycle theft, and charges are pending in connection with that incident.
