VIDEO: Bill de Blasio releases first TV ad

The Bill de Blasio campaign released its first TV ad of the 2013 mayoral race Thursday.

The ad features de Blasio’s 15-year-old son, Dante, though Dante does not identify himself as his father’s son until the very end of the video.

“I want to tell you a little bit about Bill de Blasio,” the younger de Blasio starts.

Dante lauds his father as “the only Democrat with the guts to break from the Bloomberg years” and says his affordable housing plan is “the boldest.”

Dante, a young person of color himself, also emphatically promises his father is “the only one who will end a stop-and-frisk era that unfairly targets people of color.”

Finally, Dante fesses up to his connection to this remarkable candidate, concluding: “I’d say that even if he weren’t my dad.”

Throughout the video, the elder de Blasio can be seen puttering around a kitchen with his wife, Chirlane McCray, and walking along sunny city streets with Dante.

De Blasio’s campaign has been picking up steam as the primary nears, as editorials and endorsements continue to position him as the most progressive candidate. Billionaire philanthropist George Soros recently highlighted de Blasio’s position on stop-and-frisk as one of the main reasons for his endorsement.
