Federal authorities on Thursday indicted Carl Anthony Goodwin, 28, for allegedly escaping from a Philadelphia halfway house in June and embarking on a bank robbery spree, U.S. Attorney Zane Memeger announced.

According to the indictment, Goodwin was released to the Kintock Residential Reentry Center at 301 E. Erie Ave. after completing a 30-month prison sentence for two attempted bank robberies in Philadelphia that occurred in 2010.

While living at the halfway house, Goodwin on June 17 allegedly robbed a Dunkin Donuts at 3705 Germantown Ave., making away with $215.

Goodwin is accused of then escaping Kintock on June 19 and turning to robbing banks.

He allegedly robbed a Citizens Bank branch at 6324 Stenton Ave. on June 20, taking $709 in cash, and the next day attempted to rob a Bank of America at 3075 Aramingo Ave.

Authorities claim Goodwin three days later robbed a Beneficial Bank at 5301 Chew Ave., taking $1,450, and on July 2 again robbed the Citizens Bank branch on Stenton Avenue, this time making away with $1,312.

According to the indictment, Goodwin struck again five days after that, when on July 7 he robbed a Wells Fargo bank at 861 E. Allegheny Ave., taking $1,600.

Goodwin was arrested in a Reading home July 10.

He is charged with five robberies, one attempted robbery and escape from the residential re-entry center.

If convicted of all charges, he faces a maximum possible prison sentence of 125 years, a fine of up to $1.75 million, three years of supervised release and a $700 special assessment.
