UPDATE: A police spokesman said the NYPD is conducting an investigation into the crash in Crown Heights this afternoon.

The NYPD confirmed that a black Camaro was traveling eastbound on Herkimer Street.

The Camaro reportedly blew through a stop sign at Herkimer and Albany. Police said the city bus crashed into the car as a result of the car’s failure to stop at the street sign.

The two occupants of the Camaro were arrested, police said. Charges are pending.

An MTA spokesperson reported 35 injuries, five of them serious. Three of them happened on the bus and two of them in the car.

The MTA said the bus was hit by the car, and that the car was being pursued by the NYPD.

Metro’s original story is below.

More than three dozen people were reportedly injured when a car and a city bus collided in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, on Monday afternoon.

The MTA confirmed that a B15 bus was headed eastbound on Albany Avenue. An MTA spokesperson said the car was coming from Herkimer Street.

According to the FDNY, 38 people were injured. There are 33 reported minor injuries, and the other five are listed as serious.

The five seriously injured patients are en route to Kings County Hospital, an FDNY spokesman said.

The spokesman said it is not yet known if any of the injuries are life-threatening, but reports from the scene indicate the majority of injured are people who were “shaken up when the bus hit the car.”

Photos from the scene show a man in handcuffs on the ground beside the car. Eyewitnesses say the man was being pursued by police officers when he crashed his car.

FDNY and MTA officials referred questions regarding the speed of the driver or the circumstances leading up to the crash to the NYPD.
