When asked how negotiations were going between the teachers union and the school district, union head Jerry Jordan said, “Slowly.”

Outside the Academy at Palumbo earlier this morning, Jordan said negotiations extended into the night yesterday, but the two sides remain far apart.

“We’re going  back at noon,” he said.

The district wants the some 15,000 members of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers union to take salary cuts and extend their work hours, among others.

The union up to this point has offered a freeze on wage increases and pay toward health coverage, but Jordan said the district found the offer “insufficient.”

The district is asking for $103 million in givebacks. The teachers’ contract has expired.
