Who said there’s no such thing as a free ride?

Not SEPTA.

In honor of the Eagles’ home opener game, SEPTA partnered with sponsor Miller Lite to offer free trips Sunday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the Broad Street Line subway – no fares or transfers needed.

“The eight-hour free-ride window provides plenty of time for travel to and from Lincoln Financial Field, where the Eagles and Chargers face off at 1 p.m.,” SEPTA officials said in a release.

Football fans can take SEPTA’s Broad Street Line subway to Lincoln Financial Field and other Sports Complex venues via the AT&T Station at Broad Street and Pattison Avenue.

“Every Eagles game day, thousands of our fans take the Broad Street Line to Lincoln Financial Field,” Eagles President Don Smolenski said in a statement.

“This program is a nice way for two of our partners – Miller Lite and SEPTA – to thank those fans by providing a free ride to our home opener.”

Though this is the first time Miller Lite Free Rides have been offered in Philadelphia, the program has since its inception 25 years ago provided safe trips to more than 3.6 million people, gaining the support of local public safety agencies and community organizations around the country.

“The best way to enjoy a game is by planning ahead for a safe ride,” MillerCoors responsibility initiatives manager Pam Perri said in a statement.

“We’re happy to provide Miller Lite Free Rides to help fans enjoy the Eagles’ home opener responsibly.”

To further accommodate patrons, SEPTA will also on Sunday supplement regularly scheduled service with 10 extra Sports Express trips on the Broad Street line, running every 10 minutes starting at 10:10 a.m.

Route and scedule information is available by calling 1-800-FREE-RIDES, texting “FREE RIDES” to 90464, or by visiting the Miller Lite Free Rides website.

“The Broad Street Line is always the most convenient way to get to a game,” SEPTA general manager Joe Casey said in a statement.

“We are pleased to partner with MillerCoors on the Miller Lite Free Rides program and serve as the designated driver for thousands of fans attending the home opener.”
