Before the football warriors take the field at Gillette Stadium for kickoff Thursday night, dozens of other warriors — wounded soldiers and Boston Marathon victims — will be honored before the start of the New England Patriots home opener.

The recognition was organized by Operation Warrior Wishes, an effort founded by Matt Steichen and his father Craig who seek to raise money and bring wounded veterans to all 32 NFL football stadiums in 17 weeks.

Soldiers who suffered amputations will first gather during a meet-and-greet in Boston and then take buses down to Foxboro, where they will tailgate and then escort Boston Marathon bombing victims on to the Patriots home field during a ceremony.

Matt Steichen wrote in a blog post on the organization’s website that the event will be “something that may never be replicated.”

Half of the donations made to the organization this week will go to the One Fund Boston, the charity set up to help victims of the marathon bombings, and the other half will go to veterans organizations.
