The School District of Philadelphia reported last week that the number of its schools listed on the state’s “”persistently dangerous” list has dropped for the third year in a row.

Lincoln High School in Northeast Philadelphia and Sayre High School in West Philadelphia remain on the list. Lincoln has been on the list since 2006, and Sayre was added last year.

Anna Shaw Middle School, which closed in June, was also included on the list.

Schools removed from the list includes: Beeber Middle School, Frankford High School, Kensington Business High School and Douglas High School.

Strawberry Mansion High School, which has since transitioned into a Promise Academy, is also off the list.

“Our principals and school-based staff have worked extremely hard to improve school culture, safety and climate,” Superintendent William Hite said in a statement. “We know that much work remains, which is why we are increasing the use of restorative practices and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS). Safety remains a high priority and we will continue working to ensure positive and safe environments for learning.”

The number of violent incidents reported declined by 32 percent – from 4,000 to about 2,800 – across the district. The state definition of violent incidents includes assaults, abductions and attempts, and offenses involving drugs and alcohol fires, morals offenses, robberies, and weapons.
