Cops: Man arrested for stealing lottery tickets in Graduate Hospital
Philadelphia police on Saturday arrested Kenneth Speller, 19, for allegedly stealing lottery tickets during a burglary Aug. 20 of a Graduate Hospital store.
Investigators said Speller and a second man were caught on surveillance footage shortly before 1:40 a.m. approaching the Washington Lane Discount Store, located at 1905 Washington Lane.
One suspect allegedly climbed inside through a broken security gate and window that were damaged in a prior auto accident.
Once inside, police said he went behind the counter, taking numerous lottery tickets and passing them through the security gate to the second man, who waited outside, acting as a lookout.
Both men fled on foot with the lottery tickets.
Police on Aug. 30 released surveillance footage of the incident and on Saturday stopped Speller, who fit the description of the suspect in the video.
Speller, of the 3900 block of North 17th Street in Nicetown, was arraigned Sunday and charged with burglary, criminal trespassing, theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy.
He was released Sunday after posting 10 percent of $5,000 bail.
Speller is next due in court Sept. 30 for a preliminary hearing.
