Boston men who are in need of a crash course on how to be a well-rounded guy are picking up tips at the Boston Center for Adult Education

The “Man Code Series,” which runs from September through October, teaches Boston men the brut-basics, like cutting and lighting a cigar, how to use sharp tools in the kitchen, and how to dress like a gentleman.

The aim of the series, according to the BCAE, is to offer a variety of classes targeting the modern man motivated towards self-improvement.

September classes included “Basic Kitchen and Knife Skills,” “Stogies: Learning the Basics of Cigars,” and “Best of Oktoberfest: German Beers.”

“Today, there is a strong focus on being well-rounded and cultured,” said Andrew Castronovo, BCAE program manager, who said the classes were selected based on polling and what the BCAE’s Education Department was missing from its catalogue.

Metro asked, “Do you think men in Boston need a little fine tuning?”

“The short answer by the strict definition of fine tuning is, ‘yes,’” said Castronovo. “However, this could be misconstrued as saying men in Boston don’t stack up. This couldn’t be farther from the case. Everyone with goals who strives to better themselves—men and women — is always trying to improve and we provide that opportunity to continuously evolve.”

Upcoming classes include:

Oct. 2: “Boston Men’s Style Clinic: Dress for Success” schools guys on creating the most versatile closet for any occasion.
Oct. 2-Oct. 23: “Group Rock Climbing” offers the basics of belaying.
Oct. 12: “Meat Market: Underappreciated Cuts” covers skirt, chuck, flank and hanger steak.
