Woman who stole two police cars to serve jail time
Shayna Sykes won’t be wearing a bikini anytime soon.
The 23-year-old, who in March, along with her boyfriend, allegedly stole two police cars and led a raucous chase that began in Camden and snaked through the streets of Philadelphia, was sentenced Monday. She will serve between three and eight years in prison with seven years probation, according to court records.
Her boyfriend, 24-year-old Blake Bills, will be sentenced on Oct. 24. The couple, who admitted to being high on cocaine and heroin for three days prior to the chase, are parents to a 1-year-old daughter.
What originated as a routine traffic stop for a Camden Police Officer on March 5 escalated when the duo hopped into his cruiser while he made a routine traffic stop.
The two, natives of Macungie, Pa., hit the officer with the car and broke his leg, and then zig-zagged between Camden and Pennsauken, before turning onto the Benjamin Franklin Bridge and eventually crashing into a home at 7th and Norris.
At the scene, Bills was arrested. But Sykes got away, and stole a Philadelphia Police cruiser.
After another chase through the city, in which she hit an elderly woman, Sykes pulled the car over once it caught on fire and was tackled by police.
Sykes will take trips to Lehigh County in Eastern Pennsylvania and Camden County for separate charges.
