Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Freddie Mitchell is going to prison.

Mitchell was sentenced Tuesday to 37 months in federal prison in connection with a tax-fraud scheme, CSN Philly reports. He previously pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to file a false claim.

Mitchell, 34, was facing  up to 10 years in prison. He is scheduled to begin serving his sentence Dec. 6.

Prosecutors say Mitchell and two others schemed to file a false tax return for a professional athlete, identified as “A.G.” Mitchell told A.G. he could help him get a bigger tax refund from the IRS. He and two associates then filed a return on behalf of A.G. that contained blatantly false information and sought a refund inflated by $2 million.

Mitchell was on the receiving end of a pass from Donovan McNabb on the play famously known in Philadelphia as the “4th-and-26″ play against the Green Bay Packers in the 2003-04 NFC divisional playoff game. It was one of the few memorable catches for the 2001 first-round pick, known more for his mouth than his play.
