Toronto Mayor asks police to release crack video, won’t resign

Rob Ford, the mayor of Toronto, said he’s sorry for his “mistakes,” but he doesn’t have any plans to resign from office. Even though the police have recovered a video that allegedly shows the mayor smoking crack cocaine, Ford would rather have the video released than quit his job, reports the CBC.

“I want the police chief, Bill Blair, to release this video for every single person in this city to see,” he said on his weekly radio show. “That is the right thing to do and chief, I am asking you to release this video now.” A reporter from Gawker claims to have seen the video and wrote that it clearly shows the mayor smoking crack.

Ford did not admit to using crack cocaine. Instead, he said, “Whatever this video shows … people need to judge for themselves what they see on this video.” He has apologized for his “mistakes,” but did not say what these mistakes were, according to the CBC. He did specifically apologize for getting too drunk at certain events. “I shouldn’t have got hammered down at the Danforth. If you’re going to have a couple of drinks, you stay at home and that’s it, you don’t make a public spectacle of yourself,” he said.

He also showed that he plans to stay in office in spite of his detractors, including two city council members who publicly denounced him on Twitter. “I am going to ride the storm out and just keep doing what I was elected to do,” Ford said.
