Provincetown beachgoer dies after being swept out to sea
A woman died after she was swept out to sea from a Provicetown beach Sunday morning.
Provincetown police, fire and rescue personnel, the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. National Park Service responded to a 911 call reporting a person caught in the surf about 9:06 a.m., according to a Provincetown police press release.
The woman was found dead about a half hour later on the beach in the area of Hatches Harbor, about 2 miles away, according to the Cape Cod Times. The temperature at the time was 45 degrees in the air and 57 degrees in the water, Coast Guard Petty Officer Robert Simpson said. Winds were blowing at 23 mph and seas were 4 to 6 feet, he continued.
The identity of the woman is being withheld, but it is known that she was 51 years old.
The death remains under investigation.
