DUI charge in hit-and-run accident in Southwest Philadelphia
Police have charged a 20-year-old man with driving under the influence in connection with a hit-and-run accident early Wednesday in Southwest Philadelphia that left a victim in critical condition.
The accident happened about 12:45 a.m. on the 5400 block of Woodland Avenue, 6ABC Action News reports.
The victim, who is in his 20s, was thrown about 50 feet when he was struck by a 2012 Honda Civic. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in extremely critical condition, according to the report.
The driver and a male passenger were apprehended about five blocks away after they fled the crash scene on foot. The driver, who reportedly was driving with a suspended license, is already charged with DUI and faces more serious charges.
