The clock has reportedly started ticking down to the FBI’s release of a report into the May 22, 2013 Florida shooting death of Ibragim Todashev, a reported friend of the deceased Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

Varying news accounts around the time of Todashev’s death, citing law enforcement sources, said Todashev had been ready to sign a confession for his role in a September 2011 triple homicide in Waltham.

FBI and Massachusetts State Police were present when the shooting death occurred. The Boston Globe reported Thursday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Florida state attorney have completed their investigations, and the FBI is “eager” to release its finding though it has no timetable for when that will happen.

The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division must first review the findings and write a report, according to the Globe.

Gov. Deval Patrick, a former chief of the Civil Rights Division, has previously declined comment. Attorney General Martha Coakley declined to conduct her own investigation, saying the incident occurred outside her jurisdiction.
