VIDEO: Brazilian musician shot while performing on stage
Violence in Brazil seems to be soaring.
News of a musician shot to death on stage comes a week after a referee was beheaded by soccer fans after the referee fatally stabbed a soccer player.
A popular Brazilian funk musician was shot and killed while on stage during a performance Saturday night the city of Campinas. The assailant is unknown. Police did not release any information about the shooter and whether he/she was caught.
The artist, 20-year-old Daniel Pellegrine, is an up-and-coming funk artist better known as MC Daleste. He was shot once in the chest and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The shooting took place inside a government building.
“What nonsense,” wrote another funk artist, MC Buru, on his Facebook page. “Soon MCs will have to sing with a microphone in one hand an automatic weapon in the other.”
These recent acts of violence have sparked conversations regarding how safe Brazil is in light of next year’s soccer World Cup.
