Gilgo Beach murders: Child’s body among remains found

Suffolk County police searched through thick brambles in the area around Gilgo Beach.

The New York Post is reporting that one of the three bodies found at Gilgo Beach last week was that of an infant or child.

"One [body] doesn’t match the others. It’s a young person, possibly as young as an infant, or a child," a source close to the investigation told the paper. "If that’s the case, then that wouldn’t fit the pattern."

The four remains discovered in recent weeks were the last of eight found on the Long Island beach. The first four, discovered last December,  have been identified as Craigslist prostitutes who disappeared after meeting clients.

One of the bodies on the site was assumed to be that of prostitute Shannan Gilbert, who has been missing since last May. Suffolk County Police confirmed last week that none of the remains were Gilbert.

Police suspect the bodies are victims of a serial killer, though the discovery of a child’s body complicates this theory.
