Deliveryman fatally shot in S.W. Phila set-up robbery gone wrong
A deliveryman was shot and killed in the Elmwood section of Southwest Philadelphia last night, police said.
A nearby take-out shop received an order for chicken wings, cheesesteaks and pizza bound for a house on the 2500 block of Massey Street between Elmwood and Buist avenues around 10:10 p.m. When the deliveryman, 29, responded to the address and got out of his car, he was met with what appeared to be a set-up, with two armed men waiting to rob him.
The panicked deliveryman turned and attempted to run back to the safety of his vehicle, but the gunmen opened fire, hitting him in the lower back and leg. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition, where he died shortly before 11 p.m., according to police.
Detectives were reportedly going door-to-door last night in the area of the slaying in an attempt to generate leads.
